2021 Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne Recalled Stateside Over Faulty Suspension Components

Certain examples of the 2021 Bentley Bentayga and 2021 Porsche Cayenne, including the Cayenne Coupe, are being recalled in the United States in two separate safety campaigns over an identical issue.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notes that the lock nuts on the trailing arm of the rear axle may not have been “manufactured according to the required specifications”, and they could break “due to stress corrosion”.

The loose threaded connection could “cause movement of respective suspension component beyond its intended position”. Subsequently, drivers would experience “instability with significant changes to the vehicle’s driving behavior”, and ultimately they might lose control altogether. This would increase the risk of having an accident.

Authorized technicians will inspect all 1,568 Porsches, including the base, S, Turbo and GTS versions of the 2021 Cayenne and Cayenne Coupe, made in September and October last year. A total of 206 Bentley Bentayga luxury SUVs will have to be taken back to the dealers for repairs too. The affected batch came to life between October and December 2020.

Mechanics will replace the screw connection on the rear trailing arm with new lock nuts that meet the required specifications and all work will be carried out free of charge. The problem was already taken care of on the assembly line, as lock nuts with the correct parameters are already used in production.

Porsche will inform dealers and owners of the affected Cayenne and Cayenne Coupe on June 18, while Bentley Bentayga owners and dealers will hear from the automaker on May 31. The official numbers for this recall are AMA9 for Porsche and RE21/17 (RB98) for Bentley.
