Audi Sport Italia drivers claim first and second place in the Italian GT Sprint after Monza opener

• On Sunday afternoon Riccardo Agostini defends for ten laps with tooth and nail the second position that Lorenzo Ferrari had snatched in qualifying, and the duo is runnerup after two races, albeit level on points with the rival duo

• Vito Postiglione and Daniel Mancinelli -runnerup on Sunday morning round–come back from fifteenth on the grid to fifth under the checkered flag despite a 10-second handicap time and now they are second in the points standings

A haul of 22 points propelled to the top spot in the GT Sprint drivers’ championship standings Riccardo Agostini and Lorenzo Ferrari with 22 stones, albeit Ferrari rivals Crestani/Greco are level on points and they have already a win under their belt.

Fellow Audi drivers Daniel Mancinelli and Vito Postiglione, second in the morning and fifth in the afternoon are runnerup. The experienced duo today came back from 15th on the grid to fifth at the very last lap, also overcoming a 10-second penalty at the pit stop served after Sunday morning runnerup finish.

Agostini/Ferrari didn’t have a come back race but rather a trench fight. They had finished third in the morning race on track, however they wound up fourth due to a 5-second penalty for exceeding the track limit at the first corner in a chaotic start, they were definitely in need of a Top3 finish to steer their season in the right direction in the domestic GT3 opener.

Especially Agostini, who was in charge of the second stint in round two, made an impersonation of a firewall trying to bounce rogue hackers, fending off for ten straight laps all attempts coming from Guidetti/De Luca’ Honda, a pair which is a newcomer to the series but made wave also clinching the first 2021 pole position.

Agostini’s grit proved instrumental in moving him and team mate Ferrari to the top spot in the points at the end of a race won by AMG Mercedes’ duo Baruch/Segu.
