The owner of these vehicles and the property operated from the jail. He is lodged in Delhi’s Rohini jail and is under trial too. Sukesh Chandrashekhar is accused of extorting more than Rs 200 crore from a businessman over a period of one year. There are over 20 other cases of extortion against him. Chandrashekhar operated from inside his jail cell.

The ED has also questioned Chandrashekar’s Tihar inmate Leena Maria Paul in connection to the extortion case. Leena Maria Paul is an actress who was involved in a bank scam case years ago. Police had seized several high-end cars from her Delhi farmhouse to recover the money she got from a bank. Seized vehicles from her include a Rolls Royce Phantom.

The ED started an investigation based on an FIR filed against Chandrashekar. According to the police, Chandrashekar was in contact with successful businessmen. He extorted money from the businessmen on the pretext that he would provide help to resolve high-value pending cases in High Court or Supreme Court.

The ED and Police will prepare a charge sheet too. To recover the money, the ED will ask for the court’s permission to auction these vehicles. In most cases, such seized vehicles cannot be auctioned till the case reaches a verdict. And it takes several years to reach a verdict. Until then, such high-value cars get damaged and lose their value while rotting away in the police compounds.
