To make this occasion more special, F1 is going to host the Historic Cars 70 Anniversary demonstration at Silverstone. And that is where McLaren CEO, Zak Brown will get behind the wheel of the 1978 Lotus 79.

Mario Andretti originally drove the Lotus 79 during the 1978 Formula 1 championship. The American driver is one of only two drivers to have won races in Formula 1, IndyCar, the World Sportscar Championship, and NASCAR.

Lotus 79 proved to be unbeatable during the 1978 world championship. The car won its very first race at Belgium GP and went on to secure five more wins that year. As a result, both Mario Andretti and Lotus won the 1978 drivers’ and constructors’ championships, respectively.

The car most recently competed in the Hillclimb at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where Daniel Ricciardo drove Ayrton Senna‘s MP4/5B.
