Ferrari could have a new build and development partner for its GT cars, with ORECA linked to taking over the role from longtime Italian company Michelotto.

Endurance-Info reports that the family-run business based in Padua, which has built, prepared and provided technical support for the Prancing Horse for decades, is about to lose the contract to ORECA.

Michelotto, which currently manages Ferrari’s 488 GTE and 488 GT3 fleet, has held close links with the Italian manufacturer since the 1970s.

While known for its most recent success in the prototype ranks, ORECA has a rich history in GT racing, including having been tasked with the build and development of both the Dodge Viper GTS-R and second-generation Saleen S7-R in the late 1990s and mid-2000s, respectively.

The Hugues de Chaunac-run organization holds the advantage of having a base at Magny-Cours that can fully design and build race cars, in addition to its headquarters near Circuit Paul Ricard.

When reached by Endurance-Info, an ORECA representative declined to comment.

Should a deal be confirmed, there is no indication that ORECA would necessarily be involved with Ferrari’s Le Mans Hypercar program, which is on track for a debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2023.
