Aston Martin Racing factory driver Ross Gunn will join Roman De Angelis for a full season campaign in The Heart of Racing’s Aston Martin Vantage GT3 in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The Florida-based team confirmed Tuesday that Gunn will embark on his first full-time IMSA campaign at the wheel of the team’s No. 23 Aston Martin Vantage GT3.
It comes on the heels of two top-five finishes for the car, most recently a third place GT Daytona class finish at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
Team manager Ian James, who paired with De Angelis for a full season effort last year, will move into an endurance-only driver role for the 2021 season.
The 24-year-old Englishman made his debut with the team in January’s Rolex 24 at Daytona and was also part of the lineup at Sebring, prior to his full-season confirmation.
“I am very excited to be able to pair Ross with Roman for the remainder of the IMSA series,” said James.
“It has been my goal since January and I appreciate Aston Martin Racing giving our IMSA program the highest priority globally when assigning their young factory star.
“Roman has performed brilliantly for the team and I believe the 2 young guns will be a formidable pairing in the sprint races and everyone at Heart of Racing is excited for the remainder of the season.”
The newly confirmed lineup will be in action at next weekend’s Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio, which marks the first IMSA WeatherTech Sprint Cup race of the season.
