Designed to replicate the steering wheel used by Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel during the 2020 season, the new Thrustmaster creation continues the long-term association with the Maranello brand. Is named Thrustmaster Ferrari SF1000 Edition, It will work for both the PlayStation 4 and 5, the Xbox One and Series X and S and the PC. Now, judging by the photographs, the designers have not overlooked any details.
And speaking of details, Thrustmaster’s Ferrari SF1000 Edition steering wheel is packed with them. To begin with, the 4.3-inch center screen it is fully functional and displays information such as tire temperature, fuel level, lap times and even energy use in a wide range of colors. On the screen there are 21 LEDs, 16 of which represent revolutions per minute in real time, and the remaining five represent warning signs such as the various flags.
When it comes to materials, pretty much everything you see is real carbon fiber and controls that can be manipulated, which means that its 11 buttons and seven encoders (including two thumbwheels) can be assigned to perform a function. At the rear, there is a set of aluminum magnetic shift paddles that can be interchanged with another optional push-pull type set, as well as two paddles to act as the manual clutches on the Formula 1 car. at 1: 1 scale.
This type of detail is unheard of on dedicated video game steering wheels, and is a huge step up from the latest model built by Thrustmaster. That said, it is not exactly cheap, having a starting price of 349.99 euros not including the T-Chrono paddles (€ 59.99) or the base (compatible with all those that offer a quick release system; TS-PC Racer, T-GT, TS-XW, TX and T300). Initially, this steering wheel will only be marketed in Europe and is limited to only1,000 copies.
In principle, it will be compatible with Formula 2021, although the manufacturer promises that it will be just as valid in the future for other racing games. This further solidifies the ties between the peripheral component maker and the legendary Italian brand, after Thrustmaster backed the upcoming Ferrari Esports Series 2021. Whoever is the lucky winner will become an official Ferrari driver for virtual racing events, something that has undoubtedly increased during our times of pandemic.
