As a result of a November 2020 hit-and-run that left four people injured, Gervonta Davis now faces 14 criminal charges and a potential seven years in prison.
According to TMZ, Davis was the suspected driver when the 2020 Lamborghini Urus rolled through a red light and crashed into a Toyota, injuring four people. Witnesses have said Davis and the other passenger with him gathered items from the Lamborghini and moved it all into a getaway car that had arrived as they sped off. There is apparent video evidence that corroborates these accounts as well.
Davis was reportedly celebrating his birthday before the accident.
The State’s Attorney, Marilyn Mosby, said that four people were hospitalized due to the car crash but all survived and recovered from their injuries.
Gervonta Davis is considered one of the top boxers in the entire sport, boasting a 24-0 mark as a professional fighter. Known as Floyd Mayweather’s protege, Davis was ascending through the sport. But this isn’t the first time he’s run into trouble outside of the ring.
In February 2020, he was caught on video at a celebrity basketball game getting overly physical with an ex-girlfriend.
In 2017, he was arrested for assault after punching a friend. In 2018, he was arrested for street fighting in Washington D.C.
Despite the bright start to his career, and at only age 26, Davis has been unable to get out of his own way. The November 2020 crash is just the latest in a long line of trouble both past and present for the boxing star.
