Maserati’s Grecale compact SUV hasn’t even been revealed yet, but the confirmed Trofeo variant could already be in development. Our spy photographers were able to capture yet another Grecale prototype roaming around in Italy, but this one has a sportier appearance when compared to others we’ve seen before, leading us to believe that it is indeed the Trofeo.

The design appears to be the same as all the other Grecale prototypes we’ve seen minus a bit of camouflage. (Image credit: AutoMedia)

The prototype features larger wheels and brakes, the latter of which includes red calipers and drilled discs. The other exterior touch that solidifies our Trofeo suspicions, albeit not a new one, is the sort-of-quad exhaust pipes. Other than that, though, the design appears to be the same as all the other Grecale prototypes we’ve seen minus a bit of camouflage.

It is believed that the Grecale Trofeo will use a derivative of the twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 from Alfa Romeo‘s Quadrifoglio models, seeing as the SUV is built on the same Giorgio platform that underpins the Giulia and Stelvio. It’s unlikely we’ll see the Grecale get the V8 from the other Maserati Trofeo models, but that aforementioned V6 is still a potent one, having a hefty 503bhp and 600Nm of torque.

The Grecale will be released this November, however it is not yet clear as to when the Trofeo variant will follow. (Image credit: AutoMedia)

Sitting below the Levante in Maserati’s lineup, the Grecale will compete with the likes of the Porsche Macan, and a Trofeo would likely be targeted at the Macan GTS in particular. The Grecale will be released this November. However, it is not yet clear as to when the Trofeo variant will follow.
