Play spy with kid-sized Bond car

THE STAR/ DPA – For all those children who dream of being James Bond, the ideal car has arrived just in time for the long-awaited release of No Time to Die, the latest film starring agent 007.

The toy car makers at The Little Car Company have painstakingly created a two-thirds-scale replica of the classic Bond car as a fully-electric Aston Martin DB5 Junior, packed with some of Q’s best gadgets.

Equipment includes simulated Gattling guns in the headlights, a working smokescreen and licence plates that flip. The real DB5 first appeared in the 1964 film Goldfinger and is one of the most famous movie cars ever.

The machine gun headlights, perhaps the best-known feature in Bond car history, made their debut with Sean Connery at the wheel, but trailers are teasing that the same guns will return in No Time to Die starring Daniel Craig as 007 one last time.

The original Aston Martin DB5 was 3D-scanned for reference, to ensure the proportions are perfect, said the maker which specialises in making exclusive shrunken cars, including a three-quarter scale Ferrari. Naturally the miniaturised replica is finished in authentic silver with chromed wire wheels.

The wooden steering wheel has a quick-release mechanism for speedy entry and there are Brembo discs with regenerative braking and Bilstein dampers on board.

Unlike the full-size car, the miniature is a roadster which allows an adult to squeeze behind the wheel, although kids and teens will have the most fun driving it.

That is provided their parents can pick up the tab. The replica “toy car” is priced at GBP90,000.

Performance is spirited, with a top speed of 70 km/h and a range of nearly 130km between recharges, but owners will need a private road since the replica edition is not street legal.
