Mazda, Subaru, And Porsche Are Tops In Consumer Reports’ Annual Report Card



  • The biggest losers were Genesis and Lincoln.

  • The biggest winners were Honda and BMW.

  • Only two American brands are in the Top 10.


Consumer Reports has been a staple for new car evaluations and rankings for decades. Every year, they publish research results that classify vehicles and brands. The data is tabulated based on surveys filled in by their members. This year’s Annual Report card includes some major reshuffling.

Some brands have taken a nosedive while others have shot up in the rankings. The biggest losers in this year’s survey are Genesis and Lincoln. The latter dropped a staggering 15 spots to the 23rd position while Hyundai’s luxury arm plummeted an equally impressive 13 positions to number 15. The reason is predicted subpar reliability.

At the top, Honda has found its brand image glow thanks to a 10-spot gain to the 5th position. BMW shot up six places to land in the 2nd position overall. At the very top now sits Mazda after gaining three spots. Rounding out the Top 5 are, in order, Subaru (unchanged from last year), and Porsche (down three).

At the very bottom, out of 32 analyzed brands are, from the lowest ranker, Alfa Romeo, Land Rover, Mitsubishi, Jeep, and Lincoln.
